MARY WELLS's First Album

Original released on LP Motown MLP 600 (mono)
(US, November 1961)

This is the first album released by legend Mary Wells. It also contains her first two hit singles for Motown label, with "Bye Bye Baby" making it to # 8 R&B /# 45 Billboard Pop Hot 100 in late 1960/early 1961, and "I Don't Want To Take A Chance", a # 9 R&B /# 33 Hot 100 in August 1961 - and their B-sides - "Please Forgive Me" and "I'm So Sorry". And... more 10 bonus tracks! A very good edition from label Soul Jam, which calls it "The definitive remastered edition". How important and influential was Mary Wells in the business? In a span of 22 years, from 1960/1961 to 1982, she delivered 22 hit singles on the R&B charts for Motown (13), 20th Century (3), Atco (1), Jubilee (3), Reprise (1) and Epic (1), 19 of which crossed over to the Pop charts. Three of her hits were # 1 (1 Hot 100 and 3 R&B], "The One Who Really Loves You" was the first Hot 100 Top Ten (# 8 in 1962) for Gordy's Motown empire, and "My Guy", written by Smokey Robinson, became their first Hot 100 # 1 in early 1964. Twelve of her hit singles were Pop Top 40 and 18 Top 40 R&B. Mary died tragically from throat cancer in 1992 at age 49.
