José Cid's debut solo album retains Quarteto 1111's heritage: the influence of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane; the mysticism of the Argent-Bolan-Donovan triangle; the magic of The Kinks and Nirvana; the remembrance of Alan Price's, Keith Emerson's and Brian Auger's performing art, along with the directions set by Elton John, Moody Blues or Procol Harum on their first works, namely the sophisticated arrangements and the orchestral approach. And João Gilberto's bossa nova, which José Cid assumes as his main inspiration. The overall result is extremely sincere and fascinating. Its apparent simplicity involves complex technical features and great musicianship, reflected in the inner quality of all twelve songs - eclectic as each month of one year. Although not a concept album, as Cid would produce later on through his symphonic progressive works, this is a very cohesive output: a memory album, a portrait of its time. José Cid's rich musical background reflects the Portuguese culture and language heritage through his charisma, inspiration and unique talent. Officially never edited in CD, this is your unique opportunity to have it on digital format, 'cause Rato Records have ripped the whole album from the newest vinyl 180 gr special limited edition (an audiophile cutting and pressing) from 2014.

Neste album-estreia de José Cid está bem alicerçada a herança da matriz 1111: a influência de Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane; a mística do triângulo Argent-Bolan-Donovan; a magia de Kinks e Nirvana; reminiscências da arte de Alan Price, Keith Emerson e Brian Auger; a corrente estética dos primeiros trabalhos de Elton John, Moody Bluews ou Procol Harum, nomeadamente ao nível da sofisticação doa arranjos e da abordagem orquestral. E a bossa nova de João Gilberto, que José Cid assume como principal inspiração. O resultado final é extremamente original e fascinante. Aparentemente simples, contém, no entanto, uma elevada complexidade técnica e artística que se reflecte nos doze temas do album, tantos quantos os meses do ano. Como estes, é ecléctico. Não sendo um trabalho conceptual, como Cid viria a produzir nos anos seguintes através das suas obras de prog-rock sinfónico, é uma obra musical de elevada coesão. Um album de memórias, reflexo da sua época, da portugalidade, da lusofonia, e, acima de tudo, da cultura musical, da inspiração e talento únicos do carismático José Cid. Nunca editado oficialmente em CD, esta é uma oportunidade única de terem o album em formato digital, visto Rato Records o ter ripado directamente da nova, especial e limitada edição em vinil de 180 gr, aparecida em 2014.

Este EP fez as delícias da minha adolescência, e foi uma grata surpresa tê-lo encontrado de novo há alguns anos atrás, até porque o meu exemplar original fazia parte do espólio perdido há muitos anos nas terras do Índico. O tema principal não tem nada a ver com o Snoopy do Charlie Brown, é antes baseado em factos históricos: o capitão Arthur Brown, aviador creditado como tendo abatido o temível Red Baron durante a 1ª Guerra Mundial, tinha por alcunha o "Snoopy". O single chegou a nº 8 nas tabelas inglesas e a nº 2 nas americanas.

In the past, I've expected great things from Airplane, one of the biggest American groups, but their albums have been a mixture of good and bad material. At last, they take off in this new album. Abandoning the pretentious abstract music of thei last effort, the Airplane have gone back to the style of a year ago and sound all the better for it. The album opens with "Lather", a weird, slightly menacing sound, full of atmosphere, reminiscent of "White Rabbit", a single released about a year ago which should have been bought by the million but wasn't. Once again Grace Slick, the beautiful lead singer and writer, puts everything into this song. Each track is full of interest. This in one of those rare albums where every song comes off. The rest of the group back Grace's singing perfectly and it is a pleasure to listen to them: yhey really know how to play and complement each other so well.
